Einen wahrlich beeindruckenden Kurzfilm hat Moe Charif zum Spiel Deus Ex: Human Revolution produziert. Die Aufmachung ist professionell, die Stimmung intensiv und die Thematik greift sogar philosophische Elemente der Vorlage auf. Vom ersten Teil des Quasi-Reboots war ich schon ziemlich angetan und der Nachfolger "Into Darkness" scheint das Niveau halten zu können. Es folgt die japanische Version des Announcement Trailers, der am Ende eine zusätzliche Szene enthält: Alternativ die deutsche Version. Am 17. Mai 2013 kommt der Film in die Kinos. Angeblich steckt das Filmstudio Universal in den Vorbereitungen zu einem neuen Doom-Film. Dem Zeitgeist entsprechend soll dieser Film natürlich ein Reboot werden (inzwischen mein persönliches Unwort des Jahres! ) und damit den ersten Film komplett ignorieren. In dem Fall vielleicht gar nicht so schlecht, schließlich hatte die Story von Doom Der Film überhaupt nichts mit Doom zu tun. Weiterhin soll der Doom-Reboot-Film diesmal in 3D umgesetzt werden:
a reboot - one that entirely skips over the events of the insipid 2005 film - is in the early stages of development. Universal own the rights to the film and though theyve always been keen on doing another Doom movie sometime, the success of Paramounts G.I Joe : Rise of Cobra piqued their interest even more.
Uni is said to be script scouting for a Doom movie thatll make full advantage of contemporary cinemas richest weapon - er, 3D.
Die Formel geht auf: Ego-Shooter-Perspektive + 3D = Win! Wenn jetzt noch die Story stimmt, hab ich keine Bedenken. Einen Termin gibt's noch nicht; denkbar wäre ein Release zusammen mit Doom 4.

Das Tomb Raider-Franchise rebootet auch im Kino: GK Films hat sich die Rechte zur Verfilmung des kommenden Tomb Raider-Titels mit einem "Präventivschlag" gesichert. Der Spielfilm über die Anfänge von Lara Croft wird produziert von Graham King und Tim Headington und soll 2013 in die Kinos kommen. Ein mögliches Tomb Raider 3 mit Angelina Jolie in der Hauptrolle ist damit kein Thema mehr.

Die Idee ist so alt wie der erste Teil von 1998. Gabe Newell, CEO von Valve, geht im Interview mit der PC Gamer auf die Hintergründe ein:
Where we got into this direction was after Half-Life 1 had shipped. There was a whole bunch of meetings with people from Hollywood. Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so theyd bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.

Alone in The Dark, House of the Dead, Blood Rayne musste bereits dran glauben. Far Cry, Postal, Dungeon Siege, Hunter: The Reckoning und Fear Effect befinden sich noch auf seiner Abschussliste. Jetzt gibt's noch einen neuen Kandidaten: Metal Gear Solid! -Hier der Auszug: Uwe Boll, der bereits einige umstrittene Spiel-Verfilmungen produzierte hat sich ein neues Opfer ausgesucht. Laut der bekannten Webseite Bloody Disgusting mache sich Dr. Boll an eine Verfilmung von Konamis Metal Gear Solid. "Diese Leute kamen zu mir wegen Metal Gear Solid. Sie schrieben ein Drehbuch, das Konami buchstäblich finanziert hat. Ich hoffe, Metal Gear Solid wird funktionieren." Weiterhin ließ Boll verlauten: "Gerade was die Doom-Situation betrifft, denke ich, dass wir das neue Projekt um einiges besser hinkriegen könnten." Zum Glück werden nicht alle Spieleverfilmungen von ihm versaut: Doom, Tomb Raider und das baldige Prince of Persia als Filmversion stammen nicht von ihm.

HOLLENSHEAD: Well, I hope so. Quake is a bit more schizophrenic than the Doom or Wolfenstein properties, just because the story for Quake II and Quake IV are in the same universe, but Quake and Quake III are different from the other two. I do think that the Quake II universe would make excellent grounds for a film. With Wolfenstein, that's a project that we've actually had in development. We've been working with some writers and those sorts of things. It's obviously not as far along as the Doom movie was when it took off after we had the E3 showing in 2002, but I think as we go forward with a lot of those franchises, I mean you haven't seen the last Wolfenstein game. I don't want to talk too much about when or what the next one's going to be, it's still very much in the drawing board phases, but I think as my hope is, it's not too dissimilar from Doom III and the Doom movie, where we kinda had the game going on, and the movie really caught fire. Dumb questions from the audience were down to a minimal (with one exception of a guy who was babbling so badly on the microphone that The Rock said to him "There must be good weed in San Diego" and we got two clips from the movie itself; the first is the upcoming 90 second teaser trailer that officially reveals that the movie version of id Softwares first person shooter will take place ON MARS rather than an unnamed planet as had been talked about in the past. The teaser trailer had a lot of quick cuts of The Rock; Karl Urban and the rest of the cast along with brief looks at the monsters, the environment (and they look right out of Doom 3, by the way; right down to the computer screens on the base) and battles with the monsters. The second clip is the one that got the most reaction; part of the first person shooter sequence featuring Urbans character. Yes, the movie will at one point have a viewpoint just like the game, right down to the weapons loading animation. The sequence was, by the producers own admission, still incomplete in terms of visual effects and other elements but watching the clip feels like you are watching the game in action, from surprise monster appearance in corridors to shooting parts of the environment to fry the creatures. Die Story dreht sich um den einfachen Arbeiter Farmer, gespielt von Jason Statham (The Transporter), dessen Familie von einer plündernden Horde Banditen entführt wird. Begleitet wird Farmer von seinem besten Freund Norick (Hellboy Ron Perlman), beide wollen bis zur Burg Ehb vordringen und den tyrannischen König (Burt Reynolds) stürzen. Diese schon hochkarätige Besetzung wird unterstützt von John Rhys-Davies, dem Gimli aus Der Herr der Ringe-Trilogie, sowie Kristanna Loken, welche Farmer ebenfalls zur Seite stehen wird. Die Dreharbeiten beginnen diesen Sommer und man darf gespannt sein, wie die Filmumsetzung von Gas Powered Games´ Actionrollenspiel bei den Fans ankommt nachdem Bolls letzter Film Alone in the Dark nicht gerade für Begeisterungsstürme sorgte.Quelle(n): Keine – Kommentar schreiben!

According to Variety, the script, which was originated by Dave Callaham, is adapted from the plotline for the 'Doom 3' game slated for release on PC and X-Box this summer. The science fiction story is set at a Mars' planetary military base in 2145 when something unleashes the forces of hell and they threaten to overtake the facility. Born and raised in Ireland, McCallion is a long-established commercial and music video director who has worked with clients including DIAGO and Nine Inch Nails. He made his first film aged 16 and later studied film at the Royal College of Art, London. 'Doom' will be produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and John Wells ('The Company', 'The Good Thief', 'Far From Heaven'.

Das Filmstudio hatte sich die Rechte bereits letztes Jahr gesichert. Details zum Zeitpunkt oder Inhalt des Far Cry-Nachfolgers sind noch nicht bekannt - nachdem die Filmarbeiten 2005 beginnen sollen, kann man allerdings mit einem Release frühestens Ende nächsten Jahres rechnen.

We can only hope that this might make it to the screen after all. Now can Half Life be far behind?
