Rollcage Stage 3? GRIP!

15 Jahre ist es her, als mit Rollcage Stage 2 ein spaßiger Renntitel mit irrwitzigen Tempo erschien. Einige Entwickler von damals brennen für einen dritten Teil, aber die Markenrechte liegen bei Sony auf Eis und werden es wohl auch lange Zeit bleiben:

Apparently, the idea of writing a sequel to Rollcage has in fact been floated a few times within Sony but the decision makers have never decided to back it past a preliminary examination. The view was, and still is, that they have their 'futuristic racer' slot competently filled with Wipeout and there really isn't room for another. Yes I know, it's a poor point of view, with which I can't agree. But it is what it is.

Zwar gibt es mit Redux eine kostenlose Neuauflage des ersten Teils, aber dabei soll es nicht bleiben:

All of that said, nothing about the mechanics of Rollcage is copyrighted. It's perfectly acceptable that we, or anyone else, can write a game that plays just like it, even if it's styled visually similarly, without fear of prosecution. We can write another Rollcage, we just can't call it Rollcage.

Das Ergebnis heißt GRIP, hat bereits grünes Licht bei Steam erhalten und trommelt nun auf Kickstarter für die Finanzierung. Es verbleiben jetzt noch zwei Wochen um das minimale Spendenziel von $500.000 zu erreichen. Gezeigt wird bereits ein Prototyp auf Basis der Unreal Engine 4 sowie drei Trailer.
