Ist das zu fassen? Der Duke kommt 2011 für PC und Konsolen und wird tatsächlich von Gearbox fertig gestellt! Besucher der PAX konnten eine Demo spielen, was genau den geleakten Materialen von 2009 entspricht. Ein neuer Trailer soll später noch folgen. Inzwischen ist auch die passende Webseite zu DNF unter http://www.dukenukemforever.com/ online geschaltet mit einer Pressemitteilung (zu finden unter Weiterlesen). Neben 2k Games als Publisher (gehört zu Take-Two) sind 3D Realms und Gearbox Software aufgeführt. Überraschenderweise sind auch die Logos von Triptych Games und Piranha Games aufgeführt - in welchen Zusammenhang sie mit DNF stehen ist eher unklar. Etwas Recherche hat aber ergeben, dass bei Triptych rund neun ehemalige Mitarbeiter von 3DR angestellt sind und das Studio scheinbar zu Gearbox gehört. Noch krasser ist aber das Copyright ganz unten:

Das dürfte wohl am ehesten Aufschluss über das Schicksal von 3DR geben - demnach haben sie alle Rechte an der Marke verloren. Das ist weder "bitter" noch "sweet", sondern einfach nur "knee-deep BS". Immerhin sind die Rechte nicht an Take-Two gefallen, denn Gearbox ist ein eigenständiges Unternehmen und hatte mit Duke Begins bereits Kontakt zur Marke. Irgendwo naheliegend. Ist das also die "kreative Lösung"? Genau diese Themen zu 3DR, Dukes Zukunft und George Broussard sollen morgen auf der PAX behandelt werden. Das hat kein geringerer als Joe Siegler im neuen offiziellen Forum angekündigt. Joe Siegler war Webmaster und Community Manager bei 3DR und ist nun bei Gearbox als "Duke Nukem Community Manager" angestellt. Eine gute Wahl. Was nun aus 3DR wird, fragt man sich auch in deren Forum. Dort gibt Bryan Turner nur den wagen Hinweis:

Alle Duke-Foren wurden geschlossen, sogar der Max Payne-Bereich wurde dicht gemacht. Viel bleibt 3DR jedenfalls nicht mehr.
