Joe Siegler, Webmaster von 3D Realms, hat sich vorhin nochmal zu Wort gemeldet. Über die offizielle Seite www.3drealms.com berichtet er:

No, it's just being hammered. It's not down. We've been slashdotted, fark'ed, and heck, there's even a story about all this on the BBC main website in England!

It's just excessive traffic. The website is also the old server, the forums are on a different, newer box with more horsepower.

Sowie:

The website server (which is different than the forum server) has now totally crashed. It will require a physical visit to reboot it. We can't access it at the moment, but it's not down in the sense we took it down.

Die Seite, eher der Server, hat einen Totalabsturz wegen des hohen Besucheransturms. Aber sie ist nicht offline, weil sie absichtlich in Folge der Pleite geschlossen wurde.
Über die Zukunft des Forums:

I've actually given some thought into harnassing the community into something I did on my own. However, possible job opportunities might preclude me from having the time to do that. As much as I rag on these forums, I will definitely miss them. I'm not sure if I want to let it all just die like that.

Wie auch immer es enden mag, Joe ist wohl gewillt, das Forum auf eigene Faust weiter zu führen.

Update 23:35 Uhr:
Soeben hat Joe bestätigt, dass die Frontseite wieder läuft:

Yeah, we got our host to reboot the server. For those of you who know *nix, the top value of that server is usually around 1.00, or a little below it. Since it's been back up, I've bee nwatching, it's averaging between 195 and 240! That's insane! I'm surprised it hasn't crashed again, tell you the truth.

I'll have to say, the thought occurred to me to post this on the front page of the 3DR site, but I know I'd probably get in trouble over that.
